Volunteer Abroad in Tulip Country

The “Dutch” term refers to the culture, language and people of the Netherlands. Netherlands is an official term though it is frequently referred to as Holland. Holland is actually just two of the twelve provinces in Netherlands; the North Holland and South Holland.

If you like vivid colors of orange, red and yellow; tulip fields, windmills, Haarlem and Amsterdam; then an international work abroad in Netherlands is exactly what you are fantasizing about. Orange by the way is claimed by the Dutch as their own color.

Netherlands is called by so many names like “Low country”, “Tulip Country”, “Windmill Country” and the “The Dutch Land”. It is referred as the Low country because majority of the country’s land is below sea level. Acres of tulips abound in this nation and a total of 1180 windmills; thus it derives it names.

Netherlands reclines on the western border of the mainland Europe. It is framed in the south by Belgium and east by Germany. South West winds are predominant in this land thus giving a mild climate during winter with an average 4.0 degrees Celsius and to cool summers.

Never miss the canal tour in this country if you wanted to get a better perspective in gazing at its beauty. Anne Franks House can also be visited in this country. Imagine to be visiting the 12 concert halls, 53 museums, 20 theaters and 61 galleries while you are on your international volunteering in this nation.

If you love cheese then visit Alkmar at Waagplein cheese market, stads museum and the beer museum and also a museum for the penguins. On this place alone you will carve memories that last a lifetime either for children, adults and teens.

Those mentioned above are just glimpses of the beauty of Netherlands yet they are enticingly sculpted by nature; just perfect for a visit or a longer vacation or volunteering. Netherlands is influential in a subtle way. The picture of tulips that has represented an expression of expensive love has reached far countries to the east and west.

An international work abroad in Netherlands can be translated to culture immersion from a juggernaut economy, frolicking in the acres of tulips field and an excursion in to windmill country.

International Volunteering in Uganda

International volunteering mostly occurs in students who were opting to travel abroad and lend their hand for those people who were less fortunate. However, it does not only mean alone for students but also for those who wants to experience volunteering abroad or be part of the International Volunteer Program.

There are so many countries nowadays that need volunteers to help them achieve what they need in life or their ambitions in life. And one of these countries is Uganda.

Uganda is one of the countries which are known of having a lot of orphanage being established. One of the reasons is because of the less fortunate children who have been a victim of the AIDS decease which they have acquired from their parents before they left them to death. And because of these the Global Crossroad’s partner orphanages in Uganda sustain not only for the accommodation of these less fortunate children but also the opportunity to have a brighter future through education.

Due to these problems that occur, there are numerous volunteers coming from the different corners of the world who were rushing to lend their hands in people living in Uganda. There are different kinds of works volunteers can do in Uganda. Below are some lists of volunteer work abroad particularly in Uganda:

  • Volunteers can help organize some Uganda’s extracurricular activities such like activities related to art, tours, games, dancing, singing and more.

  • They are also accountable in helping these children in preparing themselves to school, and helping them in their homework and more that relates their education.

  • There are also volunteers who were responsible in teaching Uganda children English as their second language.

  • And volunteers are also responsible in teaching these children how to live normally just like the other normal children living in and outside their country.

Volunteer Abroad, A Poem and Me

If I had my life to live all over again
I take more chances. I take more trips.
I climb more mountains. I swim more rivers.
I sit and watch more sunsets.
I go more places I’ve never been before.
I have more actual travels and fewer imaginary ones.
If I had to live my life all over again
I pick more daisies
I love more….

But you see, I don’t…

These were lines taken from a poem written by an 85 year old woman dying of cancer. I come across it during my short course in developmental reading in a US University. It touched my life radically. After finishing the course and getting on with life… I vowed to take more chances… love more….made more trips and being a volunteer to help children see the beauty of life just exactly do that.

A teaching volunteer job in Malabrigo, Argentina fulfilled my vow to be part of humanity and leave an unseen legacy. Yes, unseen yet completely satisfying, little yet pertinent contribution to the human race.

From Washington D.C I boarded a plane for Buenos Aires. From Buenos Aires I was jovially welcomed by the agent and the host family. Amidst laughter, inquiries and first hellos, I was then bundled in an old very dependable car going to Malabrigo.

Malabrigo is a very quite town full of surprises. Fancy nights are rare in Malabrigo. Yet one can focus on culture enhancement. You have to meet the children in the school. These children belong to the lower class in the society.

The children’s eyes reflect their burning desire to be part of the society concealed with fear of rejection. Volunteer and help the school or the center mold the children towards a better insight and hope for the future.

After three months of volunteer teaching these kids the basics of the English language, I only not imparted knowledge but shared a moment in life with them.

I smelled daisies, took chances, and took more trips in Malabrigo, Argentina.

Volunteer African Odyssey

The idea of a volunteer especially abroad is indeed very heart warming not only to those who would directly receive the help but also to those who read and knows about it.

Mozambique was devastated after Favio cyclone hit this country in Africa in 2007. It remains to need more foreign help. There are lots to volunteer for in Mozambique. You can choose from a community service volunteer program or an animal habituation in Victoria Falls.

The community service program in Mozambique focuses on community support and home building. It also is trying to help student go on with their education especially the learning of the English language. Teachers are needed by the children in Mozambique. Or simply help women in building livelihood in the community.

Mozambique welcomes every help from foreign government. The children are grateful for even just your presence their. The presence of a volunteer means hope for most children.

Another aspect in Mozambique also welcomes those volunteers who love animals. It is very enticing to know that wild animals still exist in this part of the world but the other side of the coin these animals are endanger of being extinct. The expanding development to cater to human needs destroy the natural home of these animals. Helping the community near the Victoria Falls means a long life for these animals.

The idea of the foreigner helping a child in Mozambique better appreciate life touches so many hearts. Mozambique now is your destination for a volunteer abroad. If your goal is to volunteer top touch lives then maybe consider Mozambique as your destination besides Europe.

The essence is volunteerism sometimes it does not matter who receives the help what is important we cared; we shared not only our life but our existence.
