International Volunteer

International Volunteers are scattered around the world to help humans. This time a group will organize and mobilize individuals around the world to help the ocean. The groups philosophies lies in the fact that the ocean is one important part and its connection to the biome can never be deleted.

The group, Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup encourages people to clean their oceans, waterways, seas and beaches free from debris and trash. Then they got to point the source of trash and perhaps unlearned the behavior that causes it.

In this view, I saw an opportunity to travel and volunteer at the same time. Volunteer work abroad does not always have to be associated with a tie and office work. International volunteering in this kind of activity is a sure way of finding news friends, crossing borders, knowing an in-depth history and of course a very effective crash course of culture.

So I see a very good opportunity for those people who would want to join forces and volunteer abroad. This is a chance to visit another country and volunteer and help up save life. This international group will be cleaning the ocean on September 19, 2009; so if going abroad is impossible with this very soon date then perhaps this year you can get involve with the group and got to volunteer locally.

That is your first step and then perhaps you inquire on an international volunteer program. If they do not have it yet then maybe inquire on a location or destination that the group will do the ocean cleaning and perhaps target it on your next travel next year. The Ocean conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup is a yearly or annual event. So there may be a variety of destination that you can choose from if ever you wanted to join the group on a yearly basis.

This may also give organizers another new idea.

Volunteering, voluntary, and volunteer are common words that would let one person to think of helping people who needs help. Indeed, it is correct. However, if you were ask why you would want to volunteer what would be your answer? Probably you will have the same common answers with the others. To help people in need, to experience how self fulfilling the feeling is or you want to experience being independent from your parents especially if you volunteer abroad. Yet all of these you could experience when you indulge yourself to volunteer. And the others answer why they wanted to volunteer abroad because they wanted to know another country, to meet new people and to know another culture and walks of life.

On the other hand, before you decide to spend volunteering abroad think of the two aspects: where exactly you wanted to volunteer (country) and what issue you would want to volunteer. From these two aspects you will have a proper direction what to do and where to go. When choosing a cause, think of your skills that you can share to the place where you volunteer. And when you choose a place think of it wisely because the people would depend on you, remember that volunteering is a commitment therefore, you have to be sincerely committed to the people living in that particular country.

Being a volunteer you should have to have the flexibility characteristic. The work of the volunteers is not easy. There are so much hard works that you will do and if you do not have enough patience and flexibility you will end up nothing and decided to just go home. But if you condition yourself about the possible circumstances abroad it would not be hard for you to deal with it. Another characteristic that you should develop when you volunteer is understanding and humility. If you have these characteristics you will reach the point of being the true and sincere volunteer.

I always wonder about the wonders of doing international volunteer programs. Come to think of it, from the word ‘volunteer’ itself, only the purely good-hearted individuals must be able do such thing. But on the other side, I guess all kinds of people can engage in volunteer works. On top of having an experience of a trip outside your hometown, not to mention culture immersion the whole idea must be great! I’ve read an article about volunteering in China and it really fired up my curiosity. I think the Chinese culture is fascinating, if not interesting. I can point out a number of things that make it so. Chinese is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. I believe they have a lot of great minds there too, or we would not have had paper or printing. The most spoken dialect in the region is Mandarin, which I actually find complicated, yet ironically it is interesting because it is so. I also find the religion of Taoism particularly captivating in its philosophy on “the way’. However, I never really understood the whole idea of Buddhism, but why does it seem to have a very large number of devotees from the public. I sure like to find the reason behind that when I get there to volunteer. I’m sure that regardless of the duration of time I’m going to spend for volunteer work abroad, it already makes one lifetime experience. The idea of total immersion alone; being with the people, understanding their way of life, knowing their beliefs and living their culture already feeds me enough. I’ve read most volunteer programs in China are based either in Shanghai or Beijing, but if choosing where to volunteer is entirely up to me I think I’ll choose both. The two cities are great and I’m sure it makes the whole job a fulfilling endeavor. Furthermore, if volunteer programs are either in rural or urban areas, I think the rural area is more appealing. I believe it is the common people who have had a good share of extraordinary life experiences and it should teach me more. Nonetheless, I am certain the language barrier is a potential problem. Perhaps if I can have just a brief background of Mandarin while I teach English or take care of little children, I can get by smoothly.

Several if not all would say they had a meaningful volunteer abroad experience. Some would perhaps say they had a lame volunteer abroad experience. But do you know that to make your volunteer abroad experiences meaningful is mostly all up to us who engage in such tasks?

Volunteer abroad is not easy thing; the apprehension that parents get when they let go of their children without the protective presence must be worth it. The sleepless nights that parents had should make up by making it indeed meaningful.

Volunteer had a very great responsibility not only to other people but also to their families. And that responsibility should be taken seriously. As volunteers to teach English abroad go to their designated areas; the meaning they found on their volunteer task is when their effort is reward. When children know how to speak and understand a single English work; that is meaningful for them; the fact that these children learn under the shade of a coconut tree.

When student volunteers understand another culture that is the kind of meaning they are looking for. When you go abroad and do not see any significance as you go to and fro inside a university campus without even understanding what you are doing; perhaps go back a day or two and reflect on what really came for. Reflect on the reason or reasons why you crossed borders.

When walking the shores of Costa Rica looking for lost turtle seems fruitless and meaningless; perhaps stand back for a while and close your eyes and question your motives in coming on the first place.

When you do not see the happiness in finding one lone and lost baby gorilla in the heart of African forest? Raise some very important inquiry on the whys on your visit to Africa during a volunteer program.

Global volunteers see happiness in so many see as “unimportant” event, discovery or finding or task. Yet, to those who knew its significant found it vital one way or the other and YOU ARE PART OF IT.

Volunteerism can be found everywhere. If you were just keen enough about your surroundings you will find out that there are myriad numbers of people and animals who needs volunteers like you. There is actually no need to volunteer abroad. Perhaps you want to volunteer abroad because you think that those people in that particular country needs more your help compare to the people in your own country, or maybe you want to volunteer abroad because you want to experience different culture, excitement and adventure.

Once they have done in their role, they will be home more mature and responsible. • Volunteering abroad could make a difference to people. Some of the volunteer’s reasons why they volunteer because they wanted to sympathize those people who were victims of floods and any environmental phenomenon. Perhaps you were thinking that disasters like these only happen in movies. Unfortunately, in this modern time it already happened. It would be nice even in your shortest time that you have volunteered, helping those people who really need your help.

• Meeting new people. When you volunteer it is expected that you would meet new people with different cultures. The best about it since both of you have the same a lot in common that you both can share, making it a start for a long lasting friendship. Even when you were both go home in your own places, still the communication and the friendship you had built remains.

International volunteering does not only mean helping people who were in need. Because there are also some species aside from human beings who needs help, and these are the animals. Volunteering for animal welfare is self fulfilling. Compared to humans, animals is less fortunate because they do not know how to express their emotions. They do not know how to express what they want and they do not know how to express what makes them hurt. Others were thinking that volunteering for the animal welfare is hard, but it is not true. Because volunteering for animals are worthy.

When you volunteer for animals expect that your hands would be full of dirt because you will be expected to help clean the trails. You can choose amongst the countries most popular about animal volunteering. In China you can help support the endangered species of Pandas or you can help feeding those declining population of lions in the Lion Park in South Africa. But there are still a lot of countries offering the same program, yet it is still up to you where you wanted to be destined for this unique mission experience.

The country of Costa Rica offers a sea turtle conservation. You can work on the pacific coasts or in the Caribbean. You can save one of the most incredible creatures in world, the sea turtles. But if you want thrills and adventures you can volunteer in South Africa and have fun with their wildlife. You can also hop to Guayaquil, Ecuador the international volunteer programs being offered here includes helping animals like crocodiles, macaws and monkeys. Volunteering in Malaysia is a great experience too. Taking good care of the orangutans, feeding them right and saving them from any illness are just some of the things you can do when volunteering in Malaysia. Aside from the countries being mentioned above you can also volunteer in some other countries that have the same program being offered.

Volunteering is like offering yourself and your devotion to help others who were in need. Various countries are suffering from the different phenomenon and badly need someone’s help. And there are also countries which are included in the list as one of the poorest countries worldwide. If you think you are qualified to volunteer, then why not? Nowadays myriad numbers of volunteer organizations emerged to stretch their help not only in their own country but all over the world. You can join whatever volunteer organization you want.

Volunteering has benefits. It is not all about volunteering alone, but there is something that you can take from it. The greatest benefits that you can get from volunteering are the chance to experience different cultures and ways of life and the chance to learn new languages aside from your own language. It is as well self fulfilling. Volunteering is a unique experience that you can boast wherever you go in your entire life. It is a plus factor if you were planning to hop abroad looking for jobs, especially if you had an experience in the volunteer work abroad program.

But before you decide to volunteer try to ask yourself first where you wanted to volunteer. Perhaps you wanted to experience the international volunteer programs or you just wanted to volunteer in your locality. It actually depends on your abilities and perseverance when volunteering. There is nothing you will loose when you volunteer, in fact you can gain in return from what you have learned in the program. You will not only helping other people to stand on their own but you were also helping yourself to grow and develop your personality. From volunteering, you will learn something new and you will realize that it changes whatever your perceptions in life. Therefore, do not hesitate to volunteer if your heart says you have to.

Everyday is a new day there will be an expected updates about news to hear in TVs, internet and radio.  Yet, it seems that the continuous news about the recession worldwide had never been renewed.  Various horrible news are emerging, adding great problems worldwide. And it seems that everyday there are millions of employees who were now unemployed.  Despite of it, there are great ways how to avoid boredom after being discarded from your previous work, and that is through volunteering.

There are different kinds of volunteering.  You can volunteer as a traffic enforcer, lean a hand to those people who were less fortunate or taking the international volunteer programs abroad to help those people in need.  Talking about volunteering, it is you who will decide about it and you were not force to get involved with the program.  But the advantages of getting involve in the volunteer program if you presently don’t have a job since it will ease the boredom that you feel.  If you volunteer you will not only helping others to move on but you were also helping yourself of becoming more confident, determine and most importantly it would help develop well your personality.

Volunteering do not only focusing on one particular country alone, if you think there were other countries which needs more your help compare to your own country you can volunteer work abroad.  There are various countries nowadays which need volunteers.  You can volunteer as an English teacher in the rural area of the certain countries, or you can volunteer in the orphanages it depends what you think suits your skills and abilities. If you volunteer, at the end you will realize how self fulfilling it is despite the hardship and circumstances you had been during those memorable times.  And you will realize how fortunate you are because you were one of those volunteers helping others rather than one of those people who need a volunteer.

What are your thoughts, wishes, ideas, reaction, and preparation when you volunteer work abroad? I remember that I vehemently told myself that my volunteer abroad program would be the best of all. And that was four years ago and still saving for the volunteer travel abroad program that I would get for myself. I even told my mon that even giving teddy bears is already a good volunteer work for me.

Then came the very day that I can grasp and work on for a work abroad; to my astonishment it was not as easy as it sounds. And a would-be volunteer should prepare himself wholly if he is determined to volunteer abroad.

Though, in my opinion a volunteer destination a few miles away from will also do well and give some feeling of goodwill and satisfaction to the volunteer. Yet, volunteering and socializing and immersing yourself in another dimension really give you another dimension of humanity.

Each destination has different travel preparations. If you are already a volunteer in Peru do not expect the entire process and preparation to be the same in Thailand. The visa preparation must be handled first.

It is also practical to research and get to know your volunteer destination. A research on the web is very helpful. If you do so, you can have a list of your “must-visit”; for every volunteer travel abroad it must include several visits to the places of interest of your destination. Information on your sleeve will come handy some other time. Some agencies give a pre-departure seminar; some a couple of days to brief the volunteers of some of possible situation they might encounter during their visit.

Financial, physical and emotional preparations are very much needed in going abroad.

Volunteering is one ways to help other people who were less fortunate. Those people who were victims of fire disasters, typhoons, and more. Nowadays, the volunteers give support to the different organizations. And most of them are also connected to prominent government leaders, nonprofit organizations and businessmen. The reason why these volunteers are mostly connected to these kind of people since these people could give them advice and financial support in times of needs.

Most of the volunteers are students; college students who were willing to help and lean a hand from those people who presently have nothing. However, some of the universities are taking advantage of the volunteer program. They make it as a compulsory instead of voluntarily. If you try to figure out the essence of the volunteer program would not be apply if you make it as a compulsory. Just like in the Gilroy Unified School District they are considering a new requirement for the graduating students. They required all the high school to volunteer. Since it is already been required volunteer programs is not volunteering and it is therefore called compulsory.

This would cause disadvantages in performing the voluntary work since some of the students are not willing to do their assigned tasks. Volunteering needs to have sincerity, love of work or assigned work. And if you try to push one person to volunteer even though he do not feel like doing his tasks it would have a bad result. Volunteering is like letting somebody to decide wholeheartedly if he is willing to do the tasks of most of the volunteers are doing. There is no need of pushing because it could only ruin the situation. If students are push to do their tasks it would end up nothing and useless. Therefore, universities also are advice to instead give the high school students the freedom to choose what they really wanted in life before hopping to college. If they would volunteer then well and if they won’t then it’s their decision let them decide what they want. After all they role their life and we don’t have the right to dictate them but instead give them advice as their guide.
