The Salvation Army needs volunteers for holiday season
Now that winter holidays are coming, many charity asociations are calling volunteers to make sweeter Christmas for those who need help. Helping families and individuals has been the mission of The Salvation Army since 1890 and Red Kettle Volunteer Program is a symbol of Christmas season.
The Salvation Army is operated by volunteers,” said Volunteer Coordinator Gerry Loos in a press release. “We depend on long term committed volunteers work for most of what makes things happen — from stocking and sorting and hanging and pricing to helping unload and stock food, to welcoming and assisting food pantry clients in the selection of food.”
A variety of volunteer jobs require a variety of time commitments. Some, like bell ringers, are needed for a few hours at a time. Long term commitments, for example one to five days a week every week, are critical to the operation of the organization. Current long term volunteering commitments are needed for positions that sort and price clothing and household goods at the Thrift Store at 24 W. Cotton St. Additionally greeters and stockers are needed at the Food Pantry at the corner of Follett and Macy streets.
“We know that there are plenty of individuals in the community who are looking for opportunities to help, but some don’t think of The Salvation Army. We hope more individuals will step up to the plate and lend us a hand,” Loos said.
